<h2>The Twenty-second Annual Moore County Writers’ Competition</h2>
<p> </p>
<p><strong>Submission Guidelines </strong><strong>(No separate application form is needed.)</strong><strong>:</strong></p>
<ul>
<li><strong><em>The competition is open to students and residents of Moore County, NC.</em></strong></li>
<li>Entries must be original, unpublished, and not currently entered in other competitions.</li>
<li>Entries must be typed, double-spaced on one side of 8½ by 11-inch paper with the pages numbered. </li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Please note: </strong>Handwritten and/or single-spaced manuscripts and entries that exceed the word count limit will <strong><em>not</em></strong> be accepted.</p>
<ul>
<li>You must include a cover sheet for each entry with name, address, telephone number, title, category, word count, and age group (grade and school, or adult).</li>
<li>Name should appear <strong><span style="text-decoration: underline;">only</span></strong> on the cover sheet.</li>
<li>Submit <strong><span style="text-decoration: underline;">two (2)</span></strong> copies of each manuscript. <strong>Entries not sent in duplicate will not be accepted.</strong></li>
<li>Entries become the property of Weymouth Center for the Arts and Humanities.</li>
</ul>
<p> <strong>Deadline:</strong> Mail entries to Weymouth Center, P.O. Box 939, Southern Pines, NC 28388. Mailed entries must be postmarked by <strong>Friday, February 5, 2010</strong>. Entries may also be delivered to Weymouth Center, 555 E. Connecticut Avenue, Southern Pines, by 2 p.m. on Friday, February 5, 2010. <strong>Entries that do not meet the submission guidelines above will not be accepted. <span style="text-decoration: underline;">Please save your entry as a Word or RTF document. Winners will be asked to email their entries after notification.</span></strong></p>
<p><strong>Age Groups:</strong> Grades 1-4, Grades 5-8, Grades 9-12, and Adult</p>
<p><strong>Categories:</strong><strong>                                                             </strong><strong>Awards:</strong><strong> </strong></p>
<p><strong>Poetry</strong>—60 lines maximum                                          <strong>First Place</strong>—$100</p>
<p><strong>Fiction</strong>—2500 words maximum                                   <strong>Second Place</strong>—$50</p>
<p><strong>Nonfiction</strong>—2500 words maximum                             <strong>Third Place</strong>—$25</p>
<p>One manuscript in each category may be submitted.       <strong>Honorable Mention</strong>—Certificate                              </p>
<p align="center">Judges are provided by the North Carolina Writers Network.</p>
<p> <strong>Notification:</strong> Winners will be notified by mail in <strong>mid-March</strong>. Awards will be distributed and first-place winners will be invited to read a selection from their winning entries at Weymouth Center on Sunday, April 25, 2010, at 2 p.m.</p>
<p><strong>Publication:</strong> Winning manuscripts will be included in a special writers’ publication available at Weymouth Center, The Country Bookshop, and the Arts Council of Moore County. Weymouth Center has first publication rights and reserves the right to edit or excerpt manuscripts before publication.</p>
