THE FOR THE ARTS AND HUMANITIES presents The Twentieth Annual Moore County Writers’ CompetitionSubmission Guidelines (No separate application form is needed.):
Please note: Handwritten and/or single-spaced manuscripts and entries that exceed the word count limit will not be accepted.
Deadline: Mail entries to Age Groups: Grades 1-4, Grades 5-8, Grades 9-12, and Adult Categories: Awards: Poetry—60 lines maximum First Place—$100 Fiction—2500 words maximum Second Place—$50 Nonfiction—2500 words maximum Third Place—$25 One manuscript in each category may be submitted. Honorable Mention—Certificate Judges are provided by the North Carolina Writers Network. Notification: Winners will be notified by mail in mid-March. Awards will be distributed and first-place winners will be invited to read a selection from their winning entries at Weymouth Center on Sunday, April 27, 2008, at 2 p.m. Publication: Winning manuscripts will be included in a special writers’ publication available at Weymouth Center, The Country Bookshop, and the Arts Council of Moore County. Weymouth Center has first publication rights and reserves the right to edit or excerpt manuscripts before publication. This project is a program of the Weymouth Center for the Arts and Humanities, generously underwritten by The Donald and Elizabeth Cooke Foundation.
